My Dad...

My Dad has always been a musician. Be it Folk, Blue Grass, or a little bit Country, if it twanged, he was there. He's been producing records as a founding member of The Greater Chicago Blue Grass Band in the 70's, then in the Bass Mountain Boys in the 80's, and on his own, solo, since.

As a teen, I admit I lacked his enthusiasm for being drug up and down the East coast from one festival to another... The long hours at the recording studios, sitting there as he laid down that same friggin' track One More Time bored me to tears. Even when he presented Bill Monroe the portrait he'd painted of the famous performer, I was too much a teen to appreciate the moment. (Though I do still have the newspaper clipping.)

Today I got a letter from my Grandma, and inside is a picture of my Dad.

My Dad.

Playing on stage at the Grand Old Opry.

Looking at him, at the picture... I don't see the hippy flake with Peter Pan syndrome. For maybe the first time, I see him.

That's my Dad.
