The Weekend Report
Jul. 5th, 2009 03:09 pmFor the 4th, I decided to cook a completely American dinner... meatloaf and green bean casserole.
Last night, Deb and I headed out to see the new Transformers movie. Yeah, it was loud, with lots of pretty booms and an Ooh or two, but I was so friggin' bored I nearly fell asleep! No matter how pretty the cliche may be, it's still an old cliche.
Oh, and for those who care, I just came across a Billy Mays tribute from last week that's great: http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php?d=20090629
Anyway, for dinner tonight, I tried a new recipe off the Net.
California Pizza Kitchen's Thai Chicken Pizza
Had to run to the store for Hoisin and Oyster sauce, and instead of cubed chicken I used ground turkey, but other than that the recipe was easy to follow and D*MN did it turn out good! Peanut sauce, turkey, green onions, carrots, beansprouts, with just enough mozzarella to bind the whole thing together.
There's only 2 pieces left!
This is so getting made again.
I'm not dead, but I play one on TV
Jun. 24th, 2009 07:35 pmHere's hoping I remember how to put a pic behind a tag...
( The Boy. Graduated. )
Interesting bit... they found a survivor on Galveston. Rain, wind, no problem. They had to medivac him out because he was covered in mosquito bites.
All I can say is I have some of the best friends in the world. We've had food, a place to sleep, all because of you.
I don't have the words to express what this means to me.
Thank you.
Not dead yet
Sep. 14th, 2008 01:07 pmThe power went out around 8:30 Friday night. We lost water Saturday afternoon. No flooding type damage to the apartment, but with the mosquitoes breeding all over the place we couldn't stay. Luckly, some friends have power, water and (obviously) internet, so this afternoon we're going better. The water needs to be boiled before we can drink, but we can finally bathe.
No idea when we can go back home. No idea when I can get back to work ('cause that paycheck would be a VERY good thing right now.) Phones aren't working for crap right now.
I thought I was handling things ok, but now I can't stop shaking.
It kills me to think of how much food we had to throw out. Everything in the fridge is gone. Freezer too. Canned goods are at a premium. I'll post when things change. From what the news says that might be up to a month from now, but still...
*deep breath* So, how the hell are you?
The Eagle Has Landed
Aug. 9th, 2008 08:19 pmThe boy turns 17 next week. That fact just floors me... I'd SWEAR it wasn't that long ago! (Makes me feel old. :( )
Oh, and there was a funeral today. One of our friend's mother lost her fight with cancer. It sucked on a lot of levels.
Any, if there's anything going on I simply MUST know about, drop me an email, ok? The flist isn't gonna get read for a while.
Ta!
And the world goes 'round
Aug. 1st, 2008 11:59 pmYou heard me. http://www.evildeadthemusical.com/
There's a few clips on YouTube, but we got our hands on the whole thing. If you can get past the first song, you'll have a blast. Trust me. ^_^
Heee! Everybody, sing!
Jul. 16th, 2008 10:06 pmIn a nut shell, Joss Whedon pulled Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and who knows who else together for a three part sing-along. I couldn't stop giggling!
Go. Watch. Enjoy.
Jun. 24th, 2008 10:54 pmEven someone like me has to watch that and smile. Made me want to know how they pulled it off!
That's my boy
Jun. 15th, 2008 11:34 amFirst, let me quote his review of Kung Fu Panda: "That didn't suck." I found it an interesting homage to old school kung fu movies, updated for modern expectations.
Then the museum. Chilling. The artistry was amazing, engraved stones the size of my pinky nail in rings with incredible detail... snake bracelets and arm bands that looked so real they could've moved at any moment. I couldn't tell you how many trinkets were shaped like snakes, rings, bracelets, everything. Apparently they thought it represented good luck and resurrection. I looked at the molds of the victims and murmured to the boy "Doesn't look like they did much good." His response? "Well, you don't see any casts of snakes, do you?"
That's my boy.
Eh, could'a done better
Jun. 12th, 2008 09:57 pmYour Score: Geek Aspirant
You scored 58 out of 60

If you don't consider yourself a geek, perhaps you could start. If you do, you're probably mad at me for picking ambiguous quotes. (I swear they're the best IMDB had to offer... you might want to re-watch some of your movies).

Gotta Love It
May. 12th, 2008 08:51 pmWell, now it's gotten so bad that, just by the number of complaints, the owner's at risk of losing her liquor license.
Her response?
If I lose my liquor license, I'm gonna turn the place into a 24 hour methadone clinic. If they don't like me know, they'll LOVE me then.
*grin*
In other news, I've replaced my poor, dead laptop with a shiney new one! *BEAM* ^_^

Mar. 6th, 2008 08:53 pmWhat is your d&d alignment?

You are a Rebel, Chaotic Good.
Chaotic good characters works towards good in their own ways, without regard for the expectations of others or the rigid guidelines of society (imposed by church or government). They are particularly disturbed by those who try to push people around and intimidate them. They are less honor-bound than the other good alignments, particularly in dealing with those who are not good. They may on occasion lie, threaten or kill for a good cause (with an evil person, perhaps). As a general rule, chaotic good characters do not attack unarmed opponents, harm the innocent, refuse an honest appeal for aid, take bribes or betray their friends. They usually prefer to cut through red tape. Robin Hood is an example of a chaotic good character, particularly prior to the return of King Richard.

Then I came home to find CZ had gotten me both the Across The Universe double DVD set, AND the PotC:Worlds End double disk set with the Pirate Keith Richards action figure! *purr* He knows me.
Of course, after all that, I should have known today'd bite the big one. Got to sit next to me desk all day long watching the tech guy work on my computer, only to find out the OS is incompatible with my current page layout program. You know, just the program that sends files to PRINT! And we can't downgrade to the previous OS (I know, 'cause we tried.) So they'll HAVE to upgrade, but not till Monday at the earliest. *headdesk* So I took monday off in the hopes that they'll be closer to done when I'm back on Tuesday.
But I got to come home tonight and watch silly happy movies, so the week counts as a win.
