We prayed to god for mercy...
Nov. 17th, 2003 06:27 pm...but the rain kept pouring down.
Yes, I've snippets from an old bluegrass song stuck in my head, but it's there for good reason. Houston has been flooded out. As in I'm staying home from work, the beltway's a parking lot, and the parking lot's a pool.
Got home last night around 11, passed directly out for 12 hours (RenFest was a blast, and I've got 2 days worth of LJ and email to catch up on) and it was raining when I work up. I'd planned on dropping off some film, getting my car tuned up, and then heading into work.
Sounded like a good plan to me. However...
Aparently the car's head gasket had blown, and they had to have a replacement sent over from their warehouse. Unfortunately, the warehouse parking lot was flooded in and they couldn't send the gasket over. Then they called a second warehouse, but their driver was only able to make it half over over and had to turn back due to washed out streets and cars stuck in high water. All in all, I was stuck there for 3 hours, which could have been worse. At least the tornados didn't touch down where I was. (Got to watch it on the news instead.)
Trying to get home after they'd finally managed to reasemble my car was fun, too. Kept praying that my little car wouldn't stall every time the water rushed across the street (damn trucks kept passing me, with their damn tall tires... bastards, all of 'em) but I'm here now, and here I'm staying.
Think I'll get any housework done, with all this extra at home time? Nah...
