Wanted: One Mac User

I'll be the first to admit, I know next to squat about Macs. (My first job out of school, I had to bluff my way through the whole first week!) Here and now, the tech peeps have been going through updating people's machines, and apparently they're doing -something- when they're done that locks out the "set desktop" option. There's only one other computer on my row that hasn't been reset, and it's only a matter of time before they get to me.

What I need to know is, how are they locking out the option, and how to get around it. They may suck out every ounce of creativity I once possessed, but I'll be damned if they're taking my RingWraiths!!!
