Shoot me now
Aug. 24th, 2003 06:18 amRARRRR!!!!!
I am not mechanicly inclined. I do not enjoy fucking with my computer, adding software/hardware/random shit. I do not like it, I don't want to do it, don't make me do it 'cause inevitably something goes wrong!
All I wanted was to shell out the dough for a dvd burner. It hurt, but I figured in the end it'd be worth it... So off I go and plunk down a wad at Best Buy.
Do the whole plug and play thing... It doesn't want to work with WinME. ....ok, I can work with that. Upgrading shouldn't be that hard, as I have all the original disks and paperwork and shit, right?
The second time was the charm with the upgrade. Go me. Except all my passwords, cookies, email, as well as everything I had in my Documents, Pictures, Music and Vids folders are gone.
EVERYTHING is gone.
All my RP logs. All my icons. MPS's... Everything I'd done so far on that FAKE vid. Poof. Casper. Gone. (My only hope is I have copies of -some- of it... somewhere. But I'm not holding my breath.)
I couldn't even get the dvd player to work when I gave it a try. So I logged online to check out the support forum... and couldn't stay online for more than a minute at a time.
Seemed I had the Blaster virus, which, while not affecting WinME, did completely fuck up WinXP. And all the dude at the help line could suggest was I get the patch and virus remover downloaded from a friends comp, bring it home and then fix it.
So it's 1:30 in the morning and I'm heading over to ladydouji's, who is kind and sweet and wonderful, and burned me the files I needed. (Then we went to Kats's Delli for dinner, came back to my place to fix the comp, and watched the first two segments of Memories. Let's hear it for nocturnal friends!)
Of course, the first thing I did when my comp was fixed was try to update Norton Anitvirus... Only to be informed that the version I have doesn't work with XP. *bangs head against desk repeatedly*
Thank god for AnimeFest next weekend. Otherwise, I'd have to start taking hostages.
[EDIT] I think I found my old files, burried deep in the recesses of the system. At least that's one less heat attack. *crosses fingers*
