I am such a geek

zebralittle52Played my first game of D&D in ten years (and really, my third game -ever-) last night.
First off, ya'll need to know that I got there around 7:30 last night to make up my character and we didn't break off till 16 hours later. And after getting home around noon, I only got a couple hours sleep... so you can kiss coheriency goodbye.
Honestly, I felt out of my depth. Couldn't roll a good hand to save my life (though I really think it was the dice, 'cause when one of the other players swapped with me, he then started rolling crap numbers.) Did stupid things that got my character gnawed on by wolves and blasted by this grindylow-type thing, and kept thinking up moves I could have done only after the fact. (Not to mention trying to remember basics, like which die to roll and which number to add off my character sheet >.<;; or what skills and/or equipment I've got on me.)
All in all, really frustrating.
But, provided they want me to continue playing with them, I'm really hoping I'll snap to it with a couple more games under my belt. Can't play next week, as David'll be in town, but perhaps the one after that... (And that's another thing. The rest of the lot were 2nd level and had just finished one game the night before, so I was starting even further behind the rest, and they'll keep playing and leveling up when I'm not there, leaving my character ever farther behind the rest.... Frustrating!)
One highlight I gotta share, though. We were holed up in a room, trying to get down a hallway, with a low wall in the middle and a bunch of goblins on the other side lobbing fireballs at us with a catapult. Two goblins in front, one at each corner of the catapult. We had one character who could use this spell to enlarge size (yes, the "Well, it's good for going out Saturday night" joke had already been said.) He waited till the next time they were ready to launch and threw the spell at one of the forward goblins. The goblin flailed about as he suddenly doubled in size, and got hit in the back of the head with his own fireball.
