Let me say first off that I am SO not computer savy.

I've picked up a laptop for to watch avi files on the TV... even figured out I need something called an "S" line to connect the two (via the DVD player, 'cause it's the only thing that had an "S" option thingy), but now I'm stumped. The disks play on the comp, no problem, and I've hooked the comp to the DVD player via the cord, but all I see on the TV is the DVD player's screen saver. I've been told I need to get some kind of converter to I can plug the comp directly into the TV, which only has a place for a coax type cable, but I'm not sure where to get one, or if that's really the way to go. Anyone out there have any suggestions?

Just a quick Happy Birthday to you. How old are you? 18 or 19?

*grin* Good man. (and I'm at that age you don't talk about age any more.)

Ack. I'm sure this is of absolutely no help, but it does sound like you need to bypass the DVD player entirely. Since the tv is recognizing the player's incoming signal as the main signal (and not the computer's, as you want it to), it would make sense to go through some kind of converter instead. Don't quote me though! I've only done basically the opposite of what you're wanting to do (hooked up DVD player to computer to make avis), or worked with routing through a VCR instead... Dang, if it were a VCR instead of a DVD player, this would actually be doable? ~.~;;; Sorry! Good luck!

Hm. The setup I have right now's DVD player - VCR - TV... I guess I can check and see if the laptop can plug into the VCR, but it's an ooooold VCR. I'll let you know how it goes when I get home. ^_^

Theoretically it should work, depending on your cord. Just replace the DVD player with the laptop, since it sounds like your VCR is already set up right to bring in the signal. *crosses fingers for you*

(Now why haven't I tried this yet? o.o;)

There's no SVideo plug on the VCR or TV, I checked last night. Gonna hop by Radio Shack before work, pick up an RCA to SVideo converter, that -should- do the trick. *crosses fingers*
