What are you, a Paladin?
Jun. 27th, 2004 11:55 amLast night was a blast.
Hooked up with meajon, her hubby and a coupel of friends to play a little D&D. It had been ages since they'd played, so the DM decided to start with the system he'd originally learned with, 2.0. >.<;; I've only played 3.5, so it kept tripping me up, but I think I got the hang of most of it by the end of the night. M's friends were a hoot, and it felt really comfortable over there. (It was different playing in a group my own age... not to mention there were three women playing and only one guy. ^_~)
I'd thought this was only going to be a one shot, so I didn't put a lot of thought into the character I'd rolled up. Heh, turns out it'll be a continuation, so I'm stuck with her, meaning I have to flesh her out now. She's a 17yr old Half-Elf fighter, three years shy of legal age (I rolled crap for her age *shrug*) I ended up saying she'd been forced into an engagement, so she stole her brother's armor and ran away from home to avoid the marrage. Man, she's wicked with a longsword too... not the brightest, sometimes noted for staring off into space going "I like swords", but her heart's in the right place. To the point the DM asked if I wasn't playing a Paladin instead. ^_~
meajon was playing a cleric, D was our sorceress, and J was our ranger. Poor J was the butt of most of our jokes, and all the botches he rolled didn't help. He'd tried to 'handle animals' a couple times, each time causing the animal to become even angrier and attack. Later, he said "I'm going to sneak around the sleeping guard dog. I have 'move silently', so I can do that". I was quick to point out that he also had 'handle animals', what was his point? He just gave me a look and rolled his dice... and botched. Tripping over his own feet, he landed face first on the floor, only to roll over and see the dog's snout three inches from his nose. Luckily, all it did was slobber on him.
The group's supposed to get together again in a couple weeks, so we'll see how it goes. I couldn't help compare it to playing 3.5, but I hope I didn't come across like "This way is better, you should be doing it different." They didn't kick me out, so I'm taking that as a good sign. ^_~
Unfortunately, we didn't wrap up till around 3 AM and I had so much Jolt and coffee in me I couldn't sleep for anything, so I'm pretty useless today. Oh well, good day to curl up and read.
And David just finished FF9. (I'm so proud.) Maybe I'll get him 10 for his birthday.

Date: 2004-06-28 01:08 pm (UTC)As for Myra having a Paladin father, could be. Hmm, maybe older brother instead? That might explain why she's as good as she is with that sword at that age, if she'd grown up practicing with him. They'd never force him into marriage, so she could think that if she turns into a fighter like him, they'd leave her alone too.
Man, Beau was so jealous when I told him about the game last night... It's more fun playing than DM'ing, I'd swear it is. He was cool with Dawn being off about him joining, no problem, but still... Not my fault all the fun stuff happens around me ^_~
