David's birthday weekend went without a hitch. He still wants to be a chef when he grows up (the kid reads cookbooks for fun) so, instead of buying him a cake we made one together. And since I'm the one who picked out the mix ahead of time, it was cheesecake. ^_~

He enjoyed Indian for lunch, his fav. restaurant, and then really got a kick out of bubble tea afterwards. Especially when they made it with real mangos.

While we were at lunch, we got to talking about Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He loves the show, and kept going on and on about it. Since I have no idea what his dad's teaching the kid, I asked David what he thought about Willow and Tara, just saying their character names to see how he'd react.

David: *looks at me over his curry* You mean, like, them being lesbians? I don't really pay attention to that, I like the boss episodes better. You know, like when you're playing a game and you've finally gotten to the biggest bad guy?

He then went on to wondering about the differences between a bazooka and a rocket launcher.

God, I love that kid.

The presents went over well too. I'd only been able to afford a used video game, but he loved it just the same. Still smiled and hugged me as much as if it'd been brand new. (*toes* I couldn't find my tape, so the wrapping paper was glued together with spray mount.)

Then yesterday he went back home. My car's started running hot, the gage right on the line before the red, but I was able to get him to Brenham all right.

And a nifty little aside to all this is, after the kid's gone back home, I get the leftover cheesecake.
