Local Con Makes Good
Oct. 24th, 2004 03:12 amOni-Con, Houston's first real all-anime convention, was a success. Well I had fun, and that's what counts. ^_~
Sure, there were a couple issues... a complete lack of parking, fan-boy funk, claustrophobic dealer's rooms and not enough schedules to go around so no one know what was going on or where the hell it was supposed to be. But since this was the first one, I'm willing to give it some slack.
Hydroplaning down the beltway, I was half expecting the place to be empty. Who'd want to go out in that kind'a rain? Well... except for me. As it was, the hotel was brimming with people. Didn't take me long to get my badge and get lost in the crowd. I knew some friends were already there, somewhere, but finding them looked impossible...
As I was wandering around, two guys stops me, saying my name. I just kind'a blink, so one asks "Don't you recognize me?"
Open mouth, insert foot "...um. No."
Remember the guys I was playing Big Eye Small Mouth with? Apparently I didn't. *hangs head* I so didn't recognize either of 'em! After the awkward silence passed we kind'a laughed about it and went our separate ways... took forever for my blush to fade though!
As I was wandering, still looking for my friends, I ended up in the All-Men Voice Actor panel. It was a hoot (naturally, Scott McNeil was there ^_~ Next time I know he's going to be at a Con, I have to remember to bring him some Nutter Butter cookies.)
After that was a round in the dealer's room. Doing my salmon swimming up-stream impression, pushing through the crowd, I overheard one girl telling another something about Babylon 5. Now, being the obsessive fangirl that I am, I had to stop and talk to 'em about it. Got glomped for it as well! And then it was onto the shopping.
The theme for today was Full Metal Alchemist. I picked up a chibi-Al key chain to hang from my phone, a red pin with the Alchemist symbol in silver, and a mystery can with Alphonse on the outside. (Turns out, inside the can was an Al washcloth, pin, sticker and this cool plastic picture with a suction cup that I guess goes on a window.) One top of all that Al, I also picked up a cell of Tasuki from Fushigi Yuugi getting a boot to the head and a Hikaru No Go and a P-chan pin. (Turns out I already had that particular P-chan, but I'm hoping I can exchange it.)
Finally ran into my friends in the dealer's room and ended up bumming around the artist's alley with them for a bit. I talked one of 'em into getting a Chibi self portrait done by one of the girls and ended up getting one myself. (I'm thinking it'll turn into an icon one of these days. ^_~) After a couple hours chilling in the hotel restaurant (no one wanted to give up their parking spots) they headed off for some Vampire LARP while I took one last spin around the dealers room, got a bit of henna on my arm and headed out.
Since it was still early I called B to see if he was up to anything. Turns out he was free so I dropped by his place for pizza and movies. Guess it was a Samuel L. Jackson kind'a night 'cause first we saw Basic then Formula 51... All in all, not a bad night.
Picked up some groceries on the way home, and now I better get some sleep for tomorrow. (*mutter* And the stupid LJ account expired so most of my icons are gone.)
