Where Carnivores Go To Die Happy
Nov. 4th, 2006 11:24 pmEver have one of those "What the fuck did I do to piss god off" kind'a weeks? Yeah well, this was our week.
Started with my coming down with a the worst migraine of my life last Saturday night. By Sunday morning I couldn't sit up without being violently ill (yay for bedside trash cans.) Come Sunday night I was able to move around, but still felt like freeze dried dog doo through Monday. I've been absolutely slammed at work and will continue to be for the next week at least. And to top it all off, CZ finally landed a day job helping the company move office equipment to the new building, only to last just one day because his back couldn't handle it.
So yeah, we needed a good weekend, or it was up the clock tower for both of us to let off some steam.
Today started with the Westheimer Street Festival (it's more of a giant block party now, not so much the massive extravaganza it used to be.) Electrical problems caused the guys to start playing about an hour late, but the weather was perfect, just the slightest breeze and no rain in site. The guys sounded great, and by the second song there was a good sized crowd gathered 'round... and even cooler, by the time they were done all the dinky little 3-track free cd's they'd brought were gone.
We stuck around to listen to Guy Schwartz and the New Jack Hippies, but soon I was starting to drag and was in desperate need of a nap. We'd been kicking around the idea of heading to Galveston after the gig, but the island's hosting a huge biker rally this weekend and neither of us wanted to fight the crowds. In the end we decided to take the money we'd have spent on the hotel and splurge on dinner instead.
Which brings us to where carnivores go to die happy.
Every week we read the restaurant reviews in the Houston Press, and one from a couple months back came back to us. Nelore Churrascaria, a Brazilian steakhouse that just opened earlier this year. Now, this isn't your neighborhood Sizzler. Oh no. The waiters all walk around the restaurant with roasted meat on swords. When you see something walk by you want to try, they carve it off the sword at your table... sirloin, filet mignon, bacon wrapped chicken, leg of lamb. They even had skewers of nothing but chicken hearts! Let's just say CZ and I rolled home very happy.
And that wasn't even the highlight of the evening!
During one of CZ's cigarette breaks outside, he was recognized by a couple waiting for their car to be brought around. "Hey, aren't you the drummer of Generation Landslide? We saw you earlier today on Westheimer... You were great! We've been listening to that cd in the car all day!"
He came back walking on air!
Sure, we both ate way more than we should have tonight, but today's been exactly what we needed.

Date: 2006-11-06 12:49 am (UTC)As for the chicken heart, hell, I asked for it! And since I did, they brought me a new skewer off the rotisserie so I could have the freshest pick. We always cook the bird's innards, the liver, neck and heart, when we have turkey or hen at home, so it's nothing new... but the way they roasted 'em had my mouth watering. The heart's a hard working muscle, so it's easy to overcook to the point it's a good substitute for a red rubber ball, but these were tender and spiced just right. We can't wait to go back! We'll just have to skip the bar and dessert so we can afford it a little better. ^_~
