Fushigi Yuugi, OVA 3
Dec. 3rd, 2002 11:33 pmSave yourself the pain and read Tasuki no Miko's Gaiden translations instead. Trust me.
Excuse me a moment while I reflect on the experience. All four episodes, back to back...
OH GOD, MY EYES! THE BURNING! MAKE IT STOP!!!
*cough* Thank you.
It's bad enough the thing starts out with another young school girl hopelessly head over heals with Taka (who's really Tamahome, only cooler. I mean really, what's the guy supposed to be, a Lolita magnet?)
There's no Kouji (the hottest bish in the book), Tasuki doesn't once use his speed (you remember his speed, his God given gift, right?) and Nuriko gets reincarnated as a GIRL! What little motivation the characters have in the book are missing in the OVA, if there is any at all it's glossed over in a couple flashbacks. There is WAY to much unnecessary CGI. And it's bad CGI at that.
And did I mention there's no Kouji? *pout* At least they kept Tas' hair long. Mmm. (Down to the small of his back.)
The voices were good to hear again. Hayashi Nobutoshi growling about in Kansai. *melts* And, of course, Koyasu Takehito screaming. I swear, the script writers don't care what they write... "Quick, Koyasu's going into the studio today! Write something he was to scream, preferable family angst!"
And, in true Fushigi Yuugi fashion, it wraps up for a happy ending in such a way that makes no sense what so ever.
Oh well, I guess it's better than no new Tasuki at all. I'll admit that I'm biased as all get out, but the few good parts of the OVA were little Tasuki side scenes. Trying to make baby Chiriko stop crying, seeing a flash of Nuriko's spirit and losing his head (*sigh* He never really got over that ungrateful wench...) Maybe it would've been better if there'd been more Tas.
Still, it should'a had Kouji. :(
