Dim Sum, Bubbles, and Quality Cheese...
Apr. 27th, 2002 07:55 pmWhat a great day! A friend and I hit the West side of town, where the street signs are bilingual, everything else is in one Asian script or another, and stray cats are scarce....
First, a long, lazy Dim Sum lunch. Mmm, mystery dumplings ('cause no one who worked there spoke English.)
Then we ducked into Ten Rens, to see if they had Bubble Tea. They didn't, but the old Chinese lady behind the counter told us it was too sweet and we shouldn't drink it anyway (No sugar! Bad for you! Drink tea, it clean you out!), and then forced us to sit with her and have some good, old fashioned Green Tea. We were both sitting there wanting to bow and murmur "Hai, obasan."
Finally some other customers came in and we were able to escape, making it down the row of shops to a little place called "Tea of Love"... a little hole in the wall with blaring J-Pop over the speakers, pastel booths right out of 50's, pictures of Elvis, James Dean and Marilyn Monroe on the walls, and Bubble Tea! Yay! It was gooood! Oh, with Sweet Bean Cakes and Steamed Cheese Bread on the side...
To cap it off, we caught The Scorpion King... quality cheese! ^_~ It was campy, it was hoaky, it was silly... is was FUN! (and there were Amazons... you can't go wrong with Amazons...)
I think we need more days like this. Lots, lots more.
